EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), is a really cool, interesting, and neuroscientific form of therapy. It is primarily used to help relieve clients from unresolved trauma and negative experiences.

Sometimes “talk therapy” is not enough. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) works directly with the brain and nervous system and helps it to heal similarly to how our bodies heal from physical traumas. This targets the way memories, thoughts, feelings and body sensations are stored when we are traumatized or go through something difficult. It has been used and studied for several decades to help people who suffer from trauma and now therapists are beginning to apply is to other aspects of therapy. EMDR helps our brain and nervous systems to disconnect memories and distressing emotion from our current experience so that our traumas and past experience don’t take control in the present moment. My use of EMDR focuses on emotional traumas, especially from important relationships, that shape our view of self and the world.
